Heads-Up Poker Guide

After you download pokerstars and you’re playing heads-up poker the game changes a lot compared to playing regular full table poker and you need to be able to adapt your game. With lots of online heads-up games starting every minute there is a lot of opportunity for you to make some money. Heads-up matches typically don’t take a lot of time to play which means you can play a lot of them and if you’re consistent you can make a lot of money. You’re going to need to have a game plan though and that’s what we’re going to help you with today.

When you’re first starting the game you need to gain a feel for your opponent and you can do this with some weird betting patterns in the early stages when the blinds are low. You should raise preflop, come out betting after the flop and so on to see whether your opponent just folds, calls or re-raises you. You can find out whether your opponent is a tight or loose player and even if you lose the pots it won’t cost you much since the blinds are low in the beginning of the match.

Once you have determine the playing style of your PokerStars.net opponent you need to start trying to trap them in there own game. If they play loose poker then you need to tighten up your game and wait for the chance to double up on them when you get a hand. If they are playing tight then you should continue playing loose and attack every pot until you’re re-raised at which point you can fold if you have nothing.

In heads-up matches it’s always good to put the pressure on your opponent rather then allowing them to put the pressure on you. When your opponent has the pressure on them they might fold the winning hand whereas if you’re pressured you might do the same. You can’t allow your opponent to gain the upper foot in a heads-up match or else you’re in for a long game.

You should play a big variety of hands in heads-up matches as well because really any two cards are good before the flop in heads-up matches. Chances are you have two live cards at worst and if you get lucky on the flop you could easily be dominating the hand with any two cards and a good flop. The only time you should really fold preflop on TitanPoker is if your opponent makes a large raise over 4x the big blind or if you have a hand like 2/7, 3/7 or something similar.

There is still a chance of you getting unlucky when you’re playing heads-up matches and it happens to the best of us. Obviously when you get a high pocket pair on PartyPoker.net you’re going to be ready to go all-in, but I’ve had higher pocket pairs end up winning the hand before and that’s just unlucky. You’ll only get burned a small percentage of the games you play though so if you’re consistent enough you should still easily be able to pull a profit.
